I began this blog, not only as a way to share the fun activities and crafts that Olivia and I do together, but also to share our adoption journey with you. Back in April, we couldn’t wait to share that we had just completed our Home Study, and were planning to adopt a baby. Well, life has taken a bit of a turn on us. We are now thrilled to share that we are expecting a little one in August! As I said in my original post, it really didn’t matter to us how we grew our family. We just knew that we wanted another child to love.
Throughout this process, I have learned so much. I have learned what it’s like to struggle with infertility, and all the decisions that go along with that diagnosis. I have learned about adoption through the perspective of the child, the birth parents, and the adoptive parents. I’ve learned what it’s like to share extremely personal details about your life with extended family, friends, and complete strangers (something that before this process I never would have thought I would do). I’ve learned what it’s like to meet with birth families, while they have made the difficult decision of deciding with whom their child’s forever home would be. I have learned the pain and disappointment of what it is like to find out that you have not been chosen by a birth family, because of reasons that are out of control. I’ve learned what it’s like to wonder if we would ever be chosen. But most importantly, I have learned that we were not alone in this process. We are extremely grateful for all of the love, support, and prayers that we have received (and continue to receive).
This journey has certainly not been an easy one, but we know it will be worth it. We can’t wait to meet our little miracle in August. I think Olivia may be the most excited of all of us, and has come up with many creative names for her little sister including Princess Jelly Bean, Princess Water Bottle, and my favorite, Princess Coconut. Don’t worry – she doesn’t get the final say! 😀
