Every year, Olivia’s grandparents look forward to receiving a handmade valentine from her. This year, I helped her to make heart shaped suncatchers. We made a similar suncatcher for our own house last year.
Here are the materials that we used:
- Tissue paper
- Contact paper
- Construction paper
The first step was to cut two pieces of contact paper, remove the back from one of them, and tape it to the table so it wouldn’t slide around. Olivia and I cut strips of tissue paper to add to the contact paper.
Olivia enjoyed sticking them to the magic paper (the contact paper).
Once the contact paper was covered in bright colors, we removed the backing from the second piece of contact paper, and covered the pieces of tissue paper with it.
The next step was to make the heart shaped frame. I did this by drawing two hearts, one inside the other onto construction paper, and then cutting them out. If you have trouble drawing your own hearts, you could print heart images from the computer and use them as tracers.
After the heart frame was complete, we taped the contact paper to it and then I trimmed around the edges. After that, I wrote “I love you to pieces.” on the frame, as well as the names of the people receiving the valentine. The last step was to attach a ribbon to the suncatcher so that Olivia’s grandparents could hang them in their windows.
