One of the ways that the parents help out in Olivia’s preschool classroom is by making and donating playdoh. We volunteered to make the orange playdoh, so that was today’s fun activity. Olivia did a great job helping to mix the ingredients together, and I’m sure that she and her friends will love making all sorts of creations with it in the classroom.
Here are ingredients that we used to make the playdoh:
– 2 cups flour
– 1 cup salt
– 2 cups water
– 1 tsp. cream of tartar
– 2 Tbsp. oil
– Food coloring
It was very simple to make the playdoh. All we did was combine all of the ingredients into a pot, and then place in onto the stove over medium high heat.
It’s important to stir the mixture constantly, otherwise it will burn. After a few minutes, the mixture will form a large, thick ball.
After all of the liquid has disappeared, remove the playdoh from the heat and knead. The playdoh will last a long time, as long as you store it in an air tight container when it is not in use.
Playdoh is great because it really allows the kids to be creative and to make all sorts of things. One of Olivia’s favorites is to make dresses for her princess dolls. She’s actually become pretty good at it!
* Make sure that the playdoh has cooled completely before giving it to your child to play with!
