Mittens and gloves are a must during this time of year! When I was teaching first grade, I always made sure to read The Mitten, by Jan Brett. I would then take out all of the craft materials that I could find, and let kids go crazy designing their own paper mittens. Even though Olivia isn’t nearly ready for first grade, I thought it would be fun to replicate this lesson with her. I’m so happy that I did! While we were reading the story, Olivia loved watching the mitten get bigger and bigger as each of the animals climbed inside. She also had a great time decorating her own mittens. She chose to make them purple (her favorite color), and added paint, sparkly snowflake stickers, and glitter. We added a piece of yarn and hung them up on the wall.
