Every morning when Olivia wakes up, she wants to know what exciting things we have planned for the day. (And tomorrow, and the next day, and the next). We have now begun using something that helps her to see our plans for the entire week. I started by printing out pictures (2” x 2 ½“) of each of our family members and friends who we see regularly. I then added other common locations and activities (grocery store, library, park, dance school). I also printed out cards on colored cardstock that I later cut in half to display the days of the week. (Each card ended up being 8 ½“ x 5 ½“. Next came my favorite part – using my laminator. Some people laugh at me, but I don’t know how families can function without a laminator! After all of materials were ready, I taped the days of the week to our dining room wall. I started with Monday because I didn’t want to break up the weekend. Every Monday morning, Olivia and I now go through the week, and tape up the cards showing who we will see, and what we will do each day. It seems to work really well for Olivia, who loves to know what’s coming next. As a finishing touch, we added a decorative clothespin that Olivia moves each day, to show what day of the week it is.
